You know you might consider a reverse chronology narrative - as in you start with dead magician in morgue and then show how he got there (involving a helium balloon!?)
Phil has an interesting idea there Magda :P You could always consider a magician who specialises in jokes for the dead. The idea made me giggle just thought I'd throw it out there... Looking forward to seeing where you take this :)
